Choreographic Assistant / Ballet Master
About
Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Thomas attended the John Cranko Ballet Academy.
After graduation, he joined the ‘Staatsballet Wiesbaden’, where he danced as a soloist with
choreographers such as Oscar Araiz, Luis Arrieta, Bernd Schindowski and Maurizio Weinrot in
all of the companies repertoire.
In 1988 he joined the ‘Ballet National de Nancy’,France, under the direction of Patrick Dupond
as a principal soloist. Continuing under the direction of Pierre Lacotte.
He performed in productions of Hans van Manen, Jiri Kilian, Nils Christie, Birgit Cullberg,
George Balanchine, Ulysses Dove, Jose Limon, Thierry Malandain, David Parson, Roland Petit,
John Neumeier, Vaslav Nijinsky, Mikhail Fokine, Antonio Gades.
1993 dancing with the Ballet de l’Opera de Lyon under the direction of Yorgos Loukos he
worked with Maguy Marin, Bill T.Jones, Susan Marshall and Angelin Prejlocaj.
Nacho Duato contracted him in 1994 as a principal soloist for the ‘Compania Nacional de
Danza’ in Spain, where he performed in the next 10 years aside Nacho Duatos work, in
productions of Jirí Kilián, Ohad Naharin, Mats Ek, William Forsythe and others.
2004 he became a freelancer, staging Nacho Duatos ballets in companies throughout the
world.
Among others with the Paris Opera, Norwegian National Ballet, Royal Ballet of Sweden,
Mikhailovsky Ballet in St. Petersburg, Hong Kong Ballet, Wiener Staatsballet, Bavarian State
Ballet, Ballet of Teatro alla Scala, Dance Theater of Harlem and Ballet de Monte Carlo
In 2007 he returned to the Compania National de Danza as a ballet master and choreographic
assistant to Nacho Duato.
Besides his work as a ballet master he has taken on the role of artistic coordinator and
assistant director in 2010 with new CND director Herve Palito.
2015 he became Ballet Master at the Staatsballett Berlin, assisting a
contemporary and classical Repertoire.
Presently working as choreographic assistant, coach, staging Nacho Duatos work as well as
teaching repertoire, ballet class and Pas de deux workshops.
